General FAQs

How do I get a quote?

You can click “quote me” on our website, email us at hello@investaprojects.com, or call us on 03 9815 1650.

How do I book in for a free quote and measure?

Very, very easily! You’ve got options, too:

The info you’ll need to provide:

  • The property address
  • How best to access it (if tenanted, we are happy to contact tenants if you provide us their name and number)
  • What products/services you’re after
  • Which rooms of the house you want the work done in
  • Your email address and phone number so we can send you the quote and call you if we have any issues along the way.

Can you quote off photos, if I send them through?

In some cases we can quote repairs based off photos, but for all installations we will need to attend the property and measure up. The measuring phase is also super beneficial for ensuring that nothing goes wrong on the day of installation. It’s also free!

Is your quoted price your best price?

Yes. Dealing with real estate agencies across Melbourne, we are a relationship-based business and for us it’s always about the long term. We want to give you a good price so that you engage us again and again. Given our size, we can access some good volume discounts and we pass those savings right on to you.

All this said, we’ve done the calcs and we know that it’s the speed with which we can turn around a job that will save you the most money. On a $500/week property, each day a carpet installation is delayed is $71 of lost rental income.

How quickly can you install?

Our installation times vary but speed is very important to us. As long as the products are in stock, we can generally install carpet and roller blinds within a week, and other types of flooring and blinds within 2-3 weeks. If your job is super urgent, let us know. We’ll always see if we can hustle you a booking more quickly.

When do you require a deposit?

For rental properties where the works have been requested by a property manager who has an existing relationship with Investa Projects, we only require a deposit if the works are over $3,500.

For all other properties, we require a 50% deposit so that we can order the products, and 50% within 7 days of completion of the works.

Do you do repairs?

We sure do! We can repair many types of flooring (e.g. restretching or patch repairing carpet) and blinds issues (e.g. broken chain). The best thing to do is send us a photo and we can let you know if it looks like something we can help with, as well as a price.

In some cases, the cost to repair will be almost as much as a replacement, or maybe the underlying products are so worn that a repair isn’t likely to last long. When this is the case we’ll let you know, as well as provide alternative options. We want you to get the best outcome.

Do you install to owner-occupied properties?

Yup!

Whilst investment properties are our bread and butter, we’ve lost count of the number of investment property owners who are so thrilled with our service that they subsequently ask us to look after their residential property next.

If I send through a floor plan / measurements, can you provide me with a quote?

There are a range of factors which determine the price of an installation, and measurements are just one. As such, we cannot provide a final quote without inspecting a property and measuring up.

Given our measure and quote is a free service, and that we can generally provide a quote within 1-2 days of request, we would always recommend this option rather than obtaining an estimate based off a floor plan. In instances where there is a very tight time frame or a time sensitive bond claim, please call us and we will advise on the best procedure to follow so that you can get an idea of price, whilst also avoiding any issues at the time of installation due to us not being familiar with the property.

How far do you travel?

At present, we travel all around Greater Melbourne as far as Geelong on the West and the Mornington Peninsula on the East. Distances further than this are assessed on a case-by-case basis – please call us to discuss.

Can you send me some samples?

Most likely, yes. Send us an email to hello@investaprojects.com outlining which samples you are after and we’ll see what we can do.

Product FAQs

Where are your products made?

All our carpets and blinds are manufactured in Australia. The Baltimore floating floor range is from Belgium.

If I supply the product, can you install it?

We prefer to install our own products. That way, we can be 100% confident in their quality and suitability for a property. We therefore only install products that we are not supplying on a case by case basis, and will need to inspect the product and the property prior to installation.

Can you supply me the product and I'll get my own person to install it?

Yes we can. In this instance, we just require you to confirm the quantity required – our free measuring service is not available for this option.

What product is best for my property?

Give us a call or email, and one of our experts will happily ask you a few questions to understand your property as well as your plans for it. From there, we can definitely advise what the best products are.

Can I get a discount if I do flooring and blinds together?

Our technicians specialise in installing different products, and so there are minimal efficiencies for us installing 2 products at the same time.

As such, there are no discounts for multiple products. Notwithstanding this, it should certainly save you the hassle – only one trade to coordinate with for both your products, less juggling of keys and/or appointments to make, and best of all, less time the property is out of action.

If I've seen a product elsewhere, can you source it?

Most likely! We pride ourselves on being VERY well connected and able to not only source products, but in many cases get you a better price. Just let us know at the time of booking your measure & quote, and we’ll do our best to track it down.

How can I view the options / do you have a showroom?

There are several ways you can view our products. If you work through a real estate agency, they should have physical samplesof our product range in their office.

We also have a full range of samples in our Abbotsford showroom. You are welcome to visit us by appointment, Monday – Friday 9-4.

If those options are tricky, we can generally arrange to either mail samples to you, or for more obscure items, we can drop them off to a Greater Melbourne address for short term loan.

In addition to our physical samples, we have digital samples on our website.

Do you do flyscreens? Tiling?

Not at the moment, but we are planning to expand our services in the future. Do let us know if there is something particular you’d love it if we could help with.

Do you install plantation shutters?

Not at present. We are exploring whether this is a product we can add to our range – we think they look amazing!

Can you replace or repair awnings? Can you install outdoor shutters?

Yes, we can replace it as long as it is within our health and safety limits. You can request a quote, and we will attend to measure and advise if we can proceed with the job. We are not offering awning repais at the moment.

Carpet FAQs

How long will the works take?

It depends on the products being installed, as well as the size of the area where they are being installed. Many carpet installations are completed the same day, with the larger ones taking 2 days.

Which carpet is best for my rental property?

We have 12 standard carpets in multiple colours, which are suitable for a rental or sales property. Which one is best for you depends on your budget, the rental price point you are targeting and how long you want the carpet to last for. We can happily provide further advice after attending your property to measure up. We can also source most carpets that are available in Australia, so if you have something particular in mind, we can usually offer a solution.

Do you remove water-damaged carpet?

In 99% of cases, yes.

The only cases where we may need to recommend a specialist is when there is a hygiene issue (e.g. water damage is from burst sewage pipes). Where this is the case we will let you know when we provide you with our quote, and we can also give you names of 1-2 companies in Melbourne who should be able to help.

Can you patch-repair my carpet?

We’ll need to have a look at it. Whether or not we can patch repair depends on the age and wear to the carpet, presence of similar carpet at the property (e.g. in a wardrobe) and also the nature of carpet. We don’t want you to end up with a very noticeable patch, so we will always let you know if we think a patch repair is not going to look good.

Is underlay important?

Yes! Underlay underneath carpet is standard and we would always recommend at least a mid-range quality underlay for our carpets. Underlay protects the carpet and also gives cushioning underfoot. Underlay is not especially expensive, and there is no cost for its installation.

What is the difference between broadloom and square metres?

Great question! Carpet comes in a standard width of 3.66m and therefore the length of a carpet cut is measured in broadloom metres. When referring to carpet, a 3blm piece of carpet would be 3.0m x 3.66m. By contrast, a square metre is literally the length x width, and width can be any amount.

What flooring is best for noise reduction?

Carpet – especially higher pile carpets are particularly good at mitigating impact sound. We also offer a range of underlays for better acoustic performance. Give us a call or email and one of our experts will happily assist you with selecting the best underlay to fit your requirements.

Flooring FAQs

How long will the works take?

It depends on the products being installed, as well as the size of the area where they are being installed. Vinyl floors typically take 1-2 days, floating floors 2-3 days, and a sand & polish takes 1 week.

Should I get vinyl or hybrid?

Hybrid has become very popular in recent years, and many people now choose hybrid instead of vinyl.

Vinyl is still a safer option than hybrid in wet areas (eg bathroom & laundry), as whilst hybrid is waterproof, extensive water over an extended period will still likely damage a hybrid floor.

In other areas, we would recommend hybrid – the costs are similar to vinyl, but the product is thicker and includes an underlay, and is much more on trend having a similar style to a floating floorboard.

What floor products are suitable for wet areas?

On the flooring side, vinyl is the most suitable product in our range for wet areas. It is heavily waterproof.

What flooring is best for pets?

One of the biggest problems with pets and flooring is scratching, therefore our hybrid planks are a popular option for people with pets. Our hybrid planks are highly durable and resistant to scratches and moisture – just make sure to quickly wipe up spills after they happen. Not only are they easy to clean and maintain but they are inexpensive compared to hardwood floors and tiles.

Should I do painting before or after installation of flooring?

There are pros and cons to either order. Our preference is that you do the painting first.

In doing the flooring first there is always the risk that paint will fall on the flooring. When laying and securing flooring right up to a wall or skirting board, it is not possible to avoid some chipping to paint. We are not able to guarantee some walls will not be scuffed or paint chipped, and as such if you are having your property painted before flooring is installed, we would recommend you budget and allow for touch ups by your painter after the flooring installation is complete.

Do I need to remove all of my furniture? What about the dishwasher, fridge, stove, washing machine and dryer?

It all depends on what is covered in your quote and been approved – in many instances our installers are able to move large furniture (e.g. beds, drawers) for a fee. In these cases we require all small, breakable or fragile items (e.g. vases, books on bookshelves) to be moved prior to our arrival.

For larger appliances located in the area of installation (e.g. dishwashers, stoves and washing machines) these need to be removed prior to our installers arrival as they are not in a position to move them.

What are the differences between your floorboard options?

There are several differences between hybrid flooring, laminate flooring and engineered timber flooring.

Engineered timber flooring is made of a thin timber veneer layer on top of a plywood base. The plywood provides durability whereas the veneer layer provides a natural, premium finish since each plank will look unique. We offer planks in European Oak as well as Australian species.

Laminate flooring, on the other hand, has the same plywood core with a printed image on top giving you the timber without breaking the bank and can hold up well against scratches. However, similarly to engineered timber flooring, laminate flooring is not water-resistant and should not be used in areas with a lot of water exposure.

Hybrid flooring is made of a limestone core which makes it 100% waterproof, hard-wearing and scratch-resistant. Therefore, if you are after the timber look but also want something long-lasting, look no further than our hybrid floorings.

How long until I can walk on floors?

Once your carpet, vinyl and floorboards are installed, you can walk on it as soon as you like.

However with polished floorboards, depending on the finish, we recommend waiting at least 72 hours before walking and putting furniture back on, to allow the floor finish to completely cure. We will advise at the time of installation how long you should wait.

Blinds FAQs

How long will the works take?

Most blinds jobs are completed in less than a day.

What are dual blinds?

Dual blinds means two blinds on one window. This is very common with roller blinds, as often people like to have a blockout blind for the night-time which doesn’t let any light in, and a sheer blind for the daytime which lets you see the world.

When having dual blinds (the best of both worlds), we can do this either way – you can have one blind on the face of the window frame and one blind in the recess, or in some cases you can have a special dual bracket on the face of the window with both blinds attached.

Do you repair electronic blinds?

It depends. If it is a problem with the blind, we can likely repair it. If it is a problem with the motor itself, it’s best if you speak directly to the manufacturer for assistance.

Are these blinds child-safe?

Safety is very important to us. We have many parents on our team and couldn’t sleep at night if our blinds weren’t child safe. We install all with child safety clips and put them at regulation heights.

What blinds are best for privacy?

We’d recommend blockout roller blinds – unlike venetians or verticals there are no gaps, and the blockout nature of the fabric means that no one outside can see in, day or night. They’re also easy to use and durable.

What blinds are best for sliding doors?

We understand the complexity with choosing the right window furnishing for your sliding or bifold doors – we want to let you enjoy the outdoors without sacrificing functionality. Multiple roller blinds are the best solution to allow flexibility of accessing each window and glass door separately. Dual roller blinds can also be used to give you control on light, privacy and temperature.

How do I clean my blinds?

Fabric should be regularly dusted and vacuumed with a dust brush attachment at a low setting as appropriate. To remove grease or finger marks, spot cleaning can be used by using an all-purpose cleaner on a soft cloth – make sure you never spray directly on the fabric.
